Juan Mata to Have Reunion Against Former Club Valencia

Manchester United come up against Valencia tomorrow in their last group match in this year’s Champions League, off the back of a 4-1 home win against Fulham on Saturday, and having already qualified for knockout stages of the competition.

So I’m not expecting a hugely competitive game tomorrow night, due to the fact we have already qualified, and both teams see their next league match as more important. United come up against currently unbeaten arch-rivals Liverpool, who currently sit atop the Premier League table whilst Valencia currently lie in 15th just 4 points off the top of the drop zone with their next match against Eibar who sit just 1 point ahead in 14th.

However, one Manchester United player has expressed his excitement to be returning to the Mestalla tomorrow and says it will be a special game for him. This is what Juan Mata had to say about the upcoming game against his former club in his weekly blog:

The other special day to come is on Wednesday. I’ve had 12 December marked down on my calendar for weeks because we are playing at the Mestalla and, if there is another team that I care about, it is Valencia.

They were a team who put a lot of faith in me when I was an inexperienced young player in the Spanish first division and they have fans who I am looking forward to seeing. I get regular messages of support from over there and I’m excited to return to the Mestalla. It won’t be competitive in terms of playing to get through to the next round, but I’m sure that both teams will give their all to try to take three points. We have the chance to finish top of our group and we are going to fight for it.

Juan Mata will be hoping to continue his good week tomorrow after completing two career milestones on Saturday, reaching both 50 goals and assists in the English Premier League.

As Juan Mata himself said, I expect both teams to be going for the full 3 points tomorrow night. We still have the chance to finish top of the group and to keep the momentum going ahead of the Liverpool match, where we need to cause an upset and hopefully become the first team to beat them this season in the Premier League.
